It's a shame that today is July 30th and I'm only now mentioning a wonderful morning on the Capital Crescent Trail, www.cctrail.org.
On July 4th my wife & I took our trikes, drove to Georgetown, parked under the Whitehurst Freeway and headed off on an adventure using the CCT. The ride was smooth and mostly covered with trees which sheltered us from the rising heat. Overall the route is flat with an occasional short climb. Once we reached Bethesda we stopped for a break and talked with other riders. There's plenty of cafes and shops to entertain at the trail head. There we learned of another way back - down Rock Creek Parkway. The park authority closes most of Rock Creek Parkway on Sundays to automobile traffic so bikes & pedestrians have more room. While a bit further back via this route it was a wonderful addition to the day.
While we thought we were lost we actually came back into Georgetown at the DC end of the waterfront. A short sidewalk ride and we were back to our truck.
We're looking forward to doing this loop again. Probably the weekend after I finish converting The Duffy Moon into The DM Road Rocket (more details to come).
